Canadian Baptist Ministries is the national and global mission arm of 1,000 Canadian Baptist churches. Prior to Sam’s role as Executive Director, he had involvements as a pastor, worship leader, church/congregational planter, and businessperson. His interests range from how the gospel interacts with culture, to how economic and social systems nourish abundant human living.
He is also somewhat fanatical about grinding his own coffee beans.
Sam was born in England and grew up in Sudbury, Ontario and Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. After obtaining a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Saskatchewan and working in the oil industry for a brief time, he obtained a Master of Divinity degree in 1989 from a program cooperatively taught by Carey Theological College and Regent College.
Sam served as Associate Pastor at Kitsilano Christian Community Church in Vancouver and then as Pastor of Worship & Outreach at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Saskatoon. From 2002-2007 he was the Lead Pastor at Olivet Baptist Church in New Westminster, BC. Prior to his appointment at CBM, Sam served as Director of the newly formed Carey Institute at Carey Theological College in Vancouver, which was launched to provide accessible and relevant training and education to the churches of Canadian Baptists of Western Canada. Sam has also served as the Board President of Canadian Baptists of Western Canada and as a CBM Board member from 2007-2009.
